Jodhpur is the second largest city of Rajasthan. Jodhpur is also the second metropolitan city of the state Rajasthan. Jodhpur was founded by the Rao Jodha, who was the chief of Rathore clan. The Rathore Clan established the Marwar Kingdom. The Jodhpur city was founded by Rao Jodha ar 1459. Rao Jodha was the chief of the Rathore clan. The city was located on the midway from Gujarat to Delhi, So the city gets more profit in business like they get profit in the trade of Opium, Copper, Silk, Sandalwood, Dates, and many other tradeable goods.

In 1947, when India get independent the ruler of Havant Singh was did not want to join the Republic of India but due to the force of Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel (the Home Minister of India) then after he joins the Republic of India.

By Air

Jodhpur has its own domestic airport which is just 5 kilometers from the city center. This airport is well-connected to other major cities such as Delhi, Mumbai, Udaipur, and Jaipur. Mehrangarh Fort

Mehrangarh fort is one of India's largest fort and it the famous tourist places in Jodhpur. Mehrangarh Fort was built by Rao Jodha at 1459. Mehrangarh Fort gets to Must Visit place in Jodhpur. The fort is situated 400 feet above the city. The movie Dark knight rises were also shot here.

There are seven gates, which include "Jaypol gate" and "Fattehpol gate", the meaning of these gates is Victory gate, These gates were made by Maharaja Maan Singh and Maharaja Ajit Singh respectively.

Maharaja Maan Singh gets victory on Jaipur and Bikaner and Maharaja Ajit Singh gets victory on Mughals then as a victory symbol they made these gates "Jaypol Gate" and "Fattehpol Gate" respectively.

Rao Jodha was credited to situate Jodhpur city and he was the chief of the Rathore clan. Rao Jodha became the 15th ruler of the Rathore clan. Before Jodhpur, the capital of Rao Jodha was the Mandore. Rao decided to move his capital to Jodhpur from Mandore because the fort of Mandore was approximately one thousand years old, and the fort was no longer considered to provide sufficient security. Later he moves his capital Mandore to Jodhpur.

Umaid Bhawan Palace

The construction of Umaid Bhawan was started in the year 1929 and it was completed in the year 1949, it is the most famous tourist place in Jodhpur. The Umaid Bhawan Palace is situated at the highest point of the city. There are 347 rooms in the palace and it is the largest private residence in the world. The palace is the mixture of Indian and European architecture style.

A part of the palace still serves as a residence to the former royal family. The other two parts of the palace are converted into the Taj Palace Hotel and Museum.

Behind the construction of Umaid Bhawan Palace, there is a mystery that once a saint gave a curse to the Rathore dynasty that at the time of drought the dynasty will get progressed.

After Maharaja Pratap Singh, Jodhpur faced famine and drought in the 1920s for around 3 years. The farmers around the area of Jodhpur faced very hard conditions due to famine, then the king Umaid Singh think to built a palace to give employment to the farmers. After completing the palace the farmers give suggestions to the Umaid Singh that gives the name to place as Umaid Singh Palace. It was a good suggestion then the king became happy and named the fort as Umaid Bhawan Palace. About 2000 to 3000 people receive the employ from the construction of the Palace.

Jaswant Thada was made in the memory of Maharaj Jaswant Singh 2nd in 1899. The Jaswant Thada was made by the Maharaja Sardar Singh and today it is the most famous tourist place in Jodhpur, who was the son of Maharaja Jaswant Singh. This is very close to the Mehrangarh Fort.

Inside the Jaswant Thada, you will find the portrait of the Rathore rulers. The Jaswant Thada is made up of the Marbles sheets. These sheets are very thin and polished. The ground of Jaswant Thada consists of a multilevel garden and a beautiful pond.

Kaylana Lake

Kalina Lake is located in the west of the city nearly 8 km far from the city. It is an artificial lake that was built by Maharaja Pratap Singh in 1872.

In the ancient time here there were two gardens which were made by the two kings Bhim Singh and Takhat Singh. Later these were destroyed to make the Kaylana Lake, it is the most famous tourist place in Jodhpur.

Rao Jodha Desert Rock Park is situated near the historic Mehrangarh Fort. The Park was created in 2006 to try for the natural, ecology of a large land area. The main aim of the formation of the Rao Jodha Desert Rock Park is to restore the rocky area near the fort. More than 80 native plant species were grown in the Park, the plant taken from the Thar Desert.

The Rao Jodha Desert Park is spread in the 80 hectares. The park has around 250 species of plants. The Park has a different type of reptiles species and nearly 200 species of birds are also there, it is the most famous tourist place in Jodhpur.
